Legacy

A Legacy Built Over Time

Founded in 1993, the Tidewater Drillers are one of the longest-standing and most respected youth baseball organizations in the Tidewater region. From the program’s earliest days, the Drillers have been committed to building not only competitive teams, but strong young athletes grounded in character, discipline, and respect for the game.

Over the decades, the Drillers’ legacy has been shaped by dedicated coaches, committed families, and players who have proudly worn the Driller blue.

The Drillers Way

“Driller Ball” has always stood for more than competition. It represents a standard of effort, accountability, and respect that players are expected to uphold on and off the field.

Core principles that define the Drillers culture include:

  • Hard work and honest effort
  • Hustle and determination
  • Team-first mentality
  • Respect for teammates, opponents, and officials
  • Commitment to academics and personal growth

Players are expected to meet academic standards and represent the organization with pride in their schools and communities. Coaches serve as mentors who reinforce these values through leadership and example.

Awards, Recognition & Traditions

Each year, the Tidewater Drillers celebrate their players and teams at the Annual Awards Banquet, recognizing individual growth, team accomplishments, and contributions to the organization.

A highlight of the evening is the presentation of the Dwaine L. Sinnen Award, which honors the player on each team who best exemplifies the character, effort, and values that Coach Sinnen represented. This award reflects what the Drillers value most — who players are becoming, not just how they perform.

A Legacy That Continues

The true legacy of the Tidewater Drillers is found in the countless former players who carry the lessons learned through baseball into their lives beyond the field. Many have continued on to compete at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels, while others have applied the discipline, teamwork, and resilience developed here in their careers and communities.

While the Drillers are proud of their history, the focus remains on the future — continuing to provide an environment where young athletes can grow, compete, and represent something meaningful.
